Essentially a near perfect 70s fighter / strike airframe which has turned out to be highly upgradeable. The F15EX is expected to remain in service until the 2040s.
Just took a trip to Wales for a holiday and 3 F-15's flew over our house! An amazing sight. This video captutes the sound perfectly. You can feel the raw power in the engines!
I had a similar view of a WWII Spitfire flying low, it was either at Lock Rannoch or Loch Tummel. It's pretty weird when you are looking down on an aircraft rather than looking up at one, but I kind of feel privileged as it was a spitfire that I got to experience this with.
What a great opportunity for photographers! I am grateful that this footage has been shared. My father was a pilot and our family was stationed at Alconbury for 4 years when I was but a lad. The Welsh countryside looks lovely. What an awesome experience to be able to look down on these aircraft as they fly by at these speeds. Can only imagine the fun Dad must have had in the RF4C he flew at the time. I have seen the F4 in many airshows and also since I lived with them nearby for many years I always think that they were perhaps the loudest. Even now.
WOW! That had to be such a rush to be so close. It reminds me of the summer of 1976, watching the Blue Angles. However, they did not fly below me at mach 1! Thank you for sharing.
